Photojournalist covering yesterday’s Marches of the Millions severely injured by Sudanese security forces

A photojournalist for Ayin Network was seriously wounded by live ammunition in the vicinity of the Republican Palace in central Khartoum during his coverage of yesterday’s Marches of the Millions. Security forces shot him four times after which the journalist required emergency treatment in the hospital, but his condition is now stable.

UN agencies: Food crisis looming for 18 million in Sudan

A worsening food crisis is looming in Sudan amid the economic downturn, displacement, and ruined crops, a new report published this week by UN agencies warns. In a joint press statement today, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) caution that the combined effects of conflict, economic crisis, and poor harvests are significantly affecting people’s access to food and will likely double the number of people facing acute hunger in Sudan to more than 18 million people by September 2022.

US condemns upsurge of violence in Darfur and Two Areas

The US State Department has issued a statement strongly condemning “the recent marked increase in violence in Sudan, particularly in Darfur and the Two Areas (South Kordofan and Blue Nile state)”, and calls for an immediate end to killings, sexual violence, forced displacements, and other human rights abuses.

5 injured as RSF shoot protesters in gold mining conflict in eastern Sudan

Five citizens were wounded when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shot at protesters from the Fatah El Naga area in Haya locality, Red Sea state, on Wednesday. The people were protesting the arrival of a gold mining company with support from the RSF on disputed land.

Concerns as fighting over ‘last Darfur SAF-holdout’ El Fasher likely to intensify

“The international community should take action to pull the belligerents back from the brink” as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are likely to intensify their efforts to expel the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) from El Fasher, their last serious holdout in Darfur. “Continued fighting would put civilians in extreme danger,” the Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker (STPT) wrote in a field report on the capital of North Darfur.

EU: ‘We cannot turn a blind eye’ on Darfur atrocities

The European Union, Sudanese Journalists Syndicate (SJS), and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) have condemned the alleged killing of over 1,000 people in the Ardamata neighbourhood of El Geneina, West Darfur, with the SJS and Masalit leaders demanding a transparent and independent investigation, as opposed to one led by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Ten killed and over 6,000 displaced in South Darfur

The Displacement Tracking Matrix revealed that ten people were killed, others were injured, and 6,000 families were displaced because of tribal clashes in the Nadif and Marfaina areas of Burum locality in South Darfur last Thursday. Activists revealed to Radio Dabanga that other deaths and injuries occurred because of the clashes extending to the city of Burum on Saturday. Meanwhile, Eritrea and Ethiopia have temporarily suspended Sudanese entry into their countries due to reported overcrowding and violence.
